Second Hand Smoke is a level in the video game World of Goo. It is the second level of Chapter 3. In this level, players need to bring down the White Goo structure attached to flammable Red Goo structure so the Goos can reach the pipe covered by flames. To achieve that, the flammable structure must be burnt away around the white structure.
This level's name is a reference to second-hand smoking, in which one inhales tobacco fumes from a smoker, as opposed to a cigar or cigarette. It is also a pun, there is a hand in the level which "smokes" the Red Goo. Interestingly, the hand is holding a match or sparkler, not a cigar or cigarette. 2D Boy may have refrained from such imagery to avoid being marked down by the ESRB for tobacco reference.
Strategy[]
As long as you connect both sides of the red structure to the center and then downwards, everything should be fine.
OCD Strategy[]
Repeat the above steps, making sure each side is connected to the center in 3 moves. Start building down towards the fire, and stop when you'll need only one more attachment to get to it. Drop all of the Fuses except one into the hand of Dark Black Goos, hoping none of them jump off, and then use the last one to light the structure on fire. Pan the camera to the hand to make sure none of the Fuses that will then seem to come from the sky will fall to their deaths.
Trivia[]
- The tagline for the level ("some balls are more flammable than other balls") is similar to the ones used in Flying Machine ("some balls are lighter than other balls") and in Genetic Sorting Machine ("some balls are prettier than other balls").
- An early image of this level has appeared online with a completely different look, and with Black Goo/Commons instead of Red Goo/Fuse. The early concept was presumably to avoid the fire.
